Small Bathrooms: Helpful Shower Design Tips

Space is among the most essential factors to consider when making changes to your bathroom. The amount of space you have to work with determines every decision you will be making for your shower or tub replacement project. Often, it is also what makes designing a shower challenging, especially if the room is small. Fortunately, there are various ways to ensure the appeal and functionality of your space.

If you have limited space in your bathroom, these tips might help when designing your shower.

Go Diagonal

Tiles installed diagonally can create the illusion of a larger space. If possible, choose larger tiles with minimal grout lines. For shower enclosures, using the same tiles as the rest of the bathroom will make the entire room look more expansive. Moreover, having tiles up to your ceiling can make the room feel higher. To help draw your eyes upward, you can even install decorative tile near your ceiling.

Keep Things Simple

When space is limited, a basic design principle is keeping all elements clean and simple. Having too much visual stimuli in a small space can make the area look tight and cramped. You can add a pop of color to your space using decorative or colored tiles. If you’re planning to do so, don’t combine too many patterns to keep your shower or bathroom from looking busy. At The Bathroom Store, our tile installation experts can help you select styles and colors that best fit your space.

Know Which Colors Work

Choosing the right color palette is key to the successful design of a small bathroom. You can never go wrong with white or neutral hues because they will help make your space look bigger, brighter, cleaner and fresher. If you prefer darker colors, choose glossy finishes since they reflect light, which creates the illusion of space.
