A Guide to Acrylic Shower Bases

bath renovation is a great way to improve the appearance of your bathroom and add value to your home. If you’re looking for a budget-friendly upgrade for your bathroom, you may want to consider installing an acrylic shower base. It has a stylish and impressive design that goes well with any bathroom.

To learn more about acrylic shower bases, take the time to read this article from The Bathroom Store. In this post, we will discuss acrylic shower base dos and don’ts as well as simple steps for cleaning.

Important Dos and Don’ts

Many homeowners are turning to acrylic shower bases for their function and affordability. If you’re considering an acrylic base for your shower, be sure to go over the following dos and don’ts.

  • DO choose an acrylic base if you’re looking for affordable options. Acrylic bases are typically inexpensive to purchase and install.

  • DON’T immediately go for the cheapest option. Before setting your heart on one shower base, you may want to compare a few products and read online customer reviews.

  • DO hire a quality contractor for your bathroom remodel. They should understand the significance of waterproofing and use suitable waterproofing materials on the shower walls.

  • DON’T do the installation yourself, especially if you don’t have previous experience. The walls and area around the top of the acrylic base along the wall are highly important for proper waterproofing. As such, it should be performed by a professional.

  • DO go for a classic, white base to achieve a more impressive look. While many companies offer other colors, white is the safest and simplest option.

  • DON’T presume that an acrylic shower base will have a negative impact on your overall bathroom design. An acrylic base still makes it possible for you to have amazing tile options for the rest of your shower.

Cleaning an Acrylic Shower Base

Acrylic is a very delicate material. When it comes to cleaning your acrylic shower base, make sure that you are using the right tools and cleaning methods for effective results. Thus, you may want to consider following these basic steps:

  1. Prepare your cleaning solution. Avoid harsh cleaners containing ammonia, acetone, or other acidic ingredients. You may also want to create your homemade solution. Many homeowners use a mixture of vinegar and baking soda to clean their acrylic surfaces. For this solution, mix one cup of vinegar with one cup of water and two tablespoons of baking soda. Then, pour the solution into a spray bottle. If it’s too thick, add more water to the solution.

  2. Spray. Next, you can spray the cleaning solution to your acrylic base. Apply additional coverage to the areas around your shower drain and base’s edges. Water may accumulate in this area, which can lead to mold growth. Allow the solution to sit on the base for two to three minutes. However, it may take longer if there are stains on the shower base. If the stains are difficult to remove, take a tablespoon of baking soda, pour it directly on the stains and scrub it away using a soft-bristled brush.

  3. Scrub. After that, you can start gently scrubbing the shower base with your brush. Use circular motions to remove any grime or debris that may have developed. Once you have cleaned the edges, work your way to the middle of the shower base. Don’t forget to scrub around the drain and small areas as well. Remember to avoid harsh scrubbing pads, abrasive cloths, and rough sponges to prevent scratching. You may also use terry cloth or microfiber to clean the base.

  4. Rinse. After scrubbing your base, turn on the shower and rinse it off. You can also use a cup to rinse off the areas where the water may not reach. Continue rinsing until the base and drain are free of the cleaning solution.

  5. Dry. Once you finish rinsing the shower base, allow it to air-dry for the next four to eight hours. You may also want to open up a window or a door for your base to dry out faster.

An acrylic shower base is a great way to save money on your shower installation. It’s also easy to maintain as long as it’s properly installed and waterproofed.
